So if you are an affiliate marketer and have been trying to track conversions, especially through pages you don’t own, I feel your pain.
If you are like me, you may have given up the offer entirely since you could not properly track conversions through pages not belonging to you, and thus could not optimize your ads/traffic sources for success at all.
But not to worry! There is actually a way to track conversions from pages that you don’t own if you are using ClickMagick. ClickMagick basically creates a redirect page that you are taken to after your first page, and then redirects you immediately to the page following your first page. So the pixel is input into that redirect page which allows your conversions to be tracked so that you can optimize your campaigns!
Let me show you how you can go about doing that:
First, you will need to create a tracking link for the page through which you are trying to track conversions from. So if I want to track how many people visited my sales page from my initial thank you page, I would need to insert the pixel onto that sales page. Problem is, that sales page doesn’t belong to me, so we can’t directly put it in there. So what you would need to do is place that tracking pixel in the ‘advanced settings’ portion of your sales page where it says ‘pixel/code’. You can actually input any code in there, whether it’s a Facebook pixel or regular tracking pixel.
We also need to create our primary initial page ‘the front end of the funnel’ (you need to select that option) and attribute conversions to this link AND the sales link. So those are in total the 3 things you need to do before you can check to make sure the pixel is firing properly.
When you do the test, you should see the action fire after you land on your whatever page you want the pixel to be on. Then, when you click on the individual click from your initial landing page, you should be able to see what ad/traffic source exactly caused the conversion! Incredibly useful so that you can optimize your campaigns! You can also set your Facebook objective safely to ‘conversions’ now even if the page you are promoting doesn’t allow you to input your own tracking pixel there 🙂
